Lafayette- John Louellen Ballard, a longtime resident of Broussard, died October 29, 2006, at the age of 92. John was born January 9, 1914 in Port Barre to Charles L. and Eugenia (Robin) Ballard. He moved to Beaumont, graduated from High School there and made Beaumont his home for many years. He worked for Mobil Oil Company for 43 years, retiring in 1977. He earned his master licenses in plumbing, electricity and air conditioning and started Ballard Maintenance in Beaumont. He also earned a captains license and worked for the Coast Guard for a short while. John has been active with the Senior Citizens at Coteau. John is survived by his beloved wife of eleven years of marriage, Laverne Ballard; his loving children, Tom Ballard and his wife Norma, of Beaumont, Angela Benoit of Youngsville, Denise Smith and her husband Troy, of Youngsville; and step-children, Loretta Murray and her husband Gary, of San Antonio, Pam LaCombe and her husband Rev. Ronnie LaCombe, of Eunice, Shelia Vining and her husband Terry, of Morgan City; his dear grandchildren, Jason, Stephan (Rebecca), and Brian (Jamie) Ballard; Shannon, A.J. and Sarah Benoit; Christian, Cora Gayle, Troy, Jr. and Shay Smith; step-grandchildren, Jim Burkett (Rona); Elizabeth (Matt) and Danny Robins; Hunter (Bridgette), Joseph and Joy LaCombe; and Amber Vining; step-great-grandchildren, Justin Burkett; Trenton and Andrew Robins. SERVICES A memorial service will be held at David Funeral Home Chapel in Lafayette at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2006.
