New Iberia"A Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen Claire Katie OBrien, 18, of New Iberia will be celebrated on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. in Sacred Heart of Jesus on the Teche Catholic Church. Serving as concelebrants will be Reverend Steve LeBlanc and Reverend Mario Romero. Inurnment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

A Gathering of Remembrance celebrating Katies life will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 from 3:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M.

Katie passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2006 in a Lafayette hospital.

A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Katie was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus on the Teche Catholic Church. She was a 2006 graduate of New Iberia Senior High, where she served on the Homecoming Court, was an honor roll student, and had been a member of the swim team. She was attending South Louisiana Community College, where she majored in child and family studies. Katie was a beautiful young woman who was full of life, had a bubbly personality, and was loved by all who knew her. She loved being with friends and family and enjoyed the outdoors.

Survivors include her parents, Michael John and Melanie Hitter OBrien of New Iberia; sister, Kelly Ann OBrien of Lafayette; special friend, Dustin Babineaux of New Iberia; maternal grandmother, Marguerite Minvielle Hitter of New Iberia; aunts, Adrienne Hitter Detwiler and husband, Robert of New Iberia, Patrice Hitter Jones (her Godmother) and husband, Dr. Johnny Jones of Baton Rouge, and Toni OBrien Hardy and husband, John of New Iberia; uncles, Larry Hitter and wife, Charlotte of New Iberia, Dr. Randy OBrien of New Iberia, and Kevin OBrien of Lafayette; cousins, David, Amy, and Annie Detwiler of New Iberia, Leslie and Louis Jones of Baton Rouge, Kevin and Clare Hitter of New Iberia, Dr. Kristi and Greg Duhe of Lafayette, and Tim OBrien (her Godfather) and wife, Belinda of Seattle, WA. Katie is also survived by a host of close friends who will miss her terribly.

Preceding Katie in death are her maternal grandfather, Alfred E. Hitter; and paternal grandparents, ONeil and Phyllis OBrien.

David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
