Lydia"A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Gilbert John Darcey, Sr., 90, of Lafayette will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Nicholas Catholic Church. The Reverend Donavan Labbe will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, New Iberia. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 27, 2006 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, 1101 Trotter Street, New Iberia, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home. Mr. Darcey passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 5:20 A.M. in a Lafayette hospital. A lifelong resident of Weeks Island, Mr. Darcey was an employee of Morton Salt Company for 42 years. After retirement, he worked part time at Tri-Parish Golf Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, as well as playing golf on a daily basis since his retirement. He had resided in Lafayette with his son, Patrick and daughter-in-law, Mona for the past five years. Survivors include his daughter, Charlotte Loehn and husband, Richard of Alpharetta, GA; sons, Gilbert Darcey, Jr. and wife, Maxine of Kingwood, TX and Patrick Darcey and wife, Mona of Lafayette; sisters, Lillian Frawley and husband, Jim of Lydia and Vivian Swafford of Simsport; grandsons, Christopher Darcey, M.D. and wife, Barbara of West Lebanon, NH and Jimi Darcey of Lafayette; granddaughters, Angel Walker and Aimee Reid of Suwanee, GA, Allison Janes and husband, Stephen of Houston, TX, Sarah Darcey of Kingwood, TX, and Rikki and Randi Darcey of Lafayette; step-granddaughter, Jenna Babin of Lafayette; and great-grandchildren, Andrew Reid, Grant Walker, and Darcey Anne Reid of Suwanee, GA; and step-great-grandchild, Teresa Darcey of West Lebanon, NH. Preceding Mr. Darcey in death are his wife of 60 years, Mabel Schexnayder Darcey; son, Thomas Charles Darcey, M.D.; parents, Julien Baptiste Darcey and Leonine Granger Darcey; brothers, Ivan and Whitney Darcey; and sisters, Nita Solosky and Flavia Bergeron. Serving as pallbearers are Kyle Babin, Gilbert Darcey, Jr., Patrick Darcey, Joey Lopez, John Schexnayder, Brian Walker, and Mona Darcey. Named as honorary pallbearers are Jimi Darcey, Richard Loehn, Oza Lopez, Chris Reid, Donald Pavy, M.D., Donald Derise, Jan Derise, and Curley Romero.
