New Iberia- Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. John L. Gatte, age 71, Friday, August 21, 2009 at 1:00PM at Miller French Baptist Church in Iota, La. with Rev. Wallace Millsap officiating. Interment will follow in Miller French Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, August 20, 2009 at David Funeral Home in New Iberia at 2:00PM until 8:00PM and will resume Friday, August 21, 2009 at Miller French Baptist Church at 10:00AM until service.
A native of Iota, La. and resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Gatte died Wednesday August 19, 2009 at 5:50AM in a Lafayette hospital. Mr. Gatte retired after 38 years of dedicated service with Cameco Engineering as a production control manager. He also was treasurer for the J&L Federal Credit Union for 8 years. Mr. Gatte was a veteran of the United State Navy, a member of the Atomic Veterans Association, The Cold War Association, and the American Legion. He was a trustee and song leader for the First Baptist Church of Jeanerette. He enjoyed gardening, playing the guitar, piano and singing.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Linda Pope Gatte of Jeanerette; his mother, Virgie Soileau Gotte of Iota, La.; his daughters, Kim Broussard and husband Ronnie of Broussard, La. and Tammy Spek and husband Brian of Suwanee, Georgia; his son, Treb Gatte and wife Darla of Snoqualmie, Washington; his grandchildren, Cameron, Madison, and Brittney Spek of Suwanee, Ga., Courtney and Jordan Broussard of Broussard, La., Vivian and Simon Gatte of Snoqualmie, Wa.; his mother-in-law, Mary Pope of Jeanerette; his brothers, Jimmy Gotte of Crowley, Eward Gotte of Iota, and Wallace Gotte of Jennings; his sisters, Barbara Suffrin of Iota, Peggy LeBlanc of Jennings, Thelma Smith of Iota, and Norma Watkins of Lafayette; brother- in-laws, John R. Pope of Shalimar, Florida and Jack Houck of Slidell, La.
Serving as pallbearers will be Treb Gatte, Ronnie Broussard, Brian Spek, John R. Pope, Jimmy Gotte, Eward Gotte, and Wallace Gotte.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Heath Deese, Alden Leblanc, Cameron Spek, and Hardie Kent.
Mr. Gatte was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Gotte; and his brothers, Kirby Gotte, Jerry Gotte, and Clifford Gotte, Jr..
