Services for Mrs. V. H. Barksdale, the former Billie Griffin, 75, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Bullock officiating. A final services at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Douglas, Ga. will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Sally Flowers officiating. Interment will follow in Douglas Cemetery in Douglas, Ga. Visiting hours were observed Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and resumed Friday at 8 a.m. until the time of service at David Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Sunday at 1 p.m. until the time of service at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Douglas, Ga. A native of Douglas, Ga. and a resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Barksdale died at 2:12 p.m. Tuesday. Jan. 10, 2006, at Iberia Medical Center. Mrs. Barksdale was a graduate of South Georgia College and Georgia State College for Women. She was a school teacher for 35 years. She taught for 19 years at Union City Elementary and 16 years at Seaborn Lee Elementary in East Point, Ga., where she also served as the Assistant Principal for 12 years. Mrs. Barksdale was a former member of the Union City Methodist Church and an active member of the First United Methodist Church in New Iberia. She was a member of the Alpha Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma for 47 years. She served as president from 1970 to 1972. She was recognized as an outstanding teacher in Fulton County and was a volunteer mentor at North Lewis Elementary. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband of 54 years and taking care of her grandchildren whom she considered her most outstanding accomplishments. She had a smile for everyone and truly lived for others. She is survived by her husband, Virgil Hulon Barksdale of New Iberia; two daughters, Beth Barksdale Norris and husband Keith of LaGrange, Ga., and Lane Barksdale Walker and husband Dr. James Charles Walker of New Iberia; five grandchildren, William Davidson Tomlin, Andrew Griffin Tomlin both of LaGrange, Ga., Meredith Leigh Walker, Whitney Lane Walker and Virginia Lane Walker all of New Iberia; and a sister, Martha Griffin Husley of Decatur, Ga. Mrs. Barksdale was preceded in death by her parents, William Marion and Cynthia Kitchens Griffin; and a sister, Nadine Griffin Cox. Pallbearers were Thomas Walker, Richard Dickie Bell, Mike and Scott Feehan, Dr. James B. Falterman Jr., Dr. Alberto Palmiano, Dr. David Rinaldi, Dr. Kennell Brown Jr., Stacy Parker and Keith Norris. Honorary pallbearers were Edwin Ashy, Harold Chauvin, Carlton Dodd and Robert Husley. David Funeral Home of New Iberia was in charge of the arrangements
