LOVING FATHER AND GRANDFATHER
New Iberia"A Mass of Christian Burial for Purvis Joseph Yogi Romero, 73, will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Reverend Mark Derise will serve as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 5, 2007 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 P.M. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home.
A native of Youngsville and longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Romero passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 7:30 P.M. in a New Iberia hospital.
Mr. Romero was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He retired from Jefferson Island Salt Mine, where he was a barge tender. Mr. Romero also worked for the City of New Iberia, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, and Iberia Parish Sheriffs Office. He enjoyed relaxing at the camp, playing cards, and going to the casino, but his greatest joy was visiting with friends and family.
Survivors include his sons, Kerry Romero and wife, Betty of St. Martinville and Brian Romero and wife, Jeamie of Lydia; daughter, Rachelle Davis and husband, Milton of Lydia; sisters, Irene Champagne and husband, Lester of Erath, Shirley Broussard and husband, Larry of New Iberia, and Linda Zeringue and husband, Tommy of Breaux Bridge; grandsons, Kim Romero of St. Martinville, Kirk Romero and fianc, Sheena Porrier of St. Martinville, Drew Romero of Lydia, and Dusty Davis of Lydia; granddaughters, Jenny Mayeaux and husband, Ace of St. Martinville, Tiffany Romero of Lydia, and Brittany Davis of Lydia; great-grandson, Ryelon Romero of St. Martinville; great-granddaughter, Raeley Viator of St. Martinville; sister-in-law, Joyce Romero of New Iberia; and brother-in-law, Eddie Labit, Jr. of New Iberia.
Preceding Mr. Romero in death were his parents, Osa and Edia Hollier Romero; sisters, Cecile Labit, Cora Domingue, and Brenda Grow; brother, Alton Pete Romero; nephew, Brent Champagne; and close friend, Rose Boudreaux.
Serving as pallbearers are Kim, Kirk, and Drew Romero, Milton and Dusty Davis, and Ace Mayeaux. Named as honorary pallbearers are Kerry, Brian, and Troy Romero, Lester Champagne, Larry Broussard, Eddie Labit, Jr., J.D. Hulin, and Tommy Zeringue.
