GRANDPA Loreauville"Funeral services for Charleton Monroe, 93, will be conducted on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in David Funeral Home. The Reverend Paul Onuegbe will officiate. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2007 from 9:30 A.M. until service time in the funeral home. Mr. Monroe passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2007 at 1:25 P.M. in a New Iberia hospital. A native of Hickory, MS, Mr. Monroe lived in Loreauville for many years. He served in the U.S. Army from February 1936 until March 1940, attaining the rank of corporal while attached to Battery B, 1st Battalion, 83rd Field Artillery. Mr. Monroe was an avid gardener, and he enjoyed working in his yard and woodworking. He moved to Garden View Assisted Living 2-1/2 years ago, where he made many friends. Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Charmaine Monroe of Lafayette; grandson, Garret Monroe and wife, Kim of Loreauville and Major Craig Monroe, USMC and wife, Melissa of Madisonville; great-granddaughter, Kassidy Monroe of Loreauville; brother, John Monroe of Mississippi; and sister, Lillian Schaeffer of Mississippi. Preceding Mr. Monroe in death were his wife of 55 years, Yvonne Ransonet Monroe; mother, Pauline Puckett Monroe; son, Francis Monroe; and brother Jullian Monroe. Serving as pallbearers are Garret Monroe, Major Craig Monroe, Kirk Crochet, and John Broussard. Named as honorary pallbearer is Curless Boullion. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Mr. Monroes caregivers, Lorena Alexander, Curless and Shelly Boullion, Kitty Courts, and Marleisha Rose, all of whom took wonderful care of him for the past year. They also wish to thank Mr. Monroes Garden View family for their friendship. David Funeral Home of Loreauville is in charge of arrangements.
