Lafayette- Funeral services for Gertie Johnson Manuel, 78, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Broussard. Gertie was born on September 24, 1927 in Ville Platte and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 2, 2006 in Morgan City. The Rev. Peter Emusa will conduct the funeral mass. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Broussard. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jessie Ray Manuel of Morgan City; her children, Jessie Dean Manuel and his wife Jaye Lynn of Morgan City, Connie M. McAuliffe and her husband E. Jeffrey of Metairie, and Randy Paul Manuel, Sr. of Morgan City; grandchildren, Micah Kelly, Jeffrey F. McAuliffe, Kayla Manuel-Gorman, Randy Paul Manuel, Jr., and Jessica Ray Manuel; and 3 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, Alcide Johnson and her mother, Emily Deshotel Johnson. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made in Gerties name to the Alzheimers Association of Acadiana, 128 Demanade Boulevard, Building 4, Suite 109, Lafayette, LA 70503. Musical selections for the funeral will be provided by Jodi Bollich. A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. David Funeral Home of Lafayette is in charge of the arrangements.
