New Iberia"Funeral services for Mr. Robert Leroy (Bob) Moreland, Sr., 71, of New Iberia will be held on Friday, February 24, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. in David Funeral Home Chapel. Father Mike Arnaud will officiate. Entombment with military honors will follow at Nativity of Our Lady Mausoleum, New Iberia. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2006 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M., with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. and a V.F.W. ritual to be held at 7:30 P.M. in the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 A.M. until service time. Mr. Moreland died on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at 2:30 A.M. in a New Iberia hospital. A native of Canton, OH, Mr. Moreland was a longtime resident of New Iberia. He served for 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, including tours of duty in Viet Nam and Africa, among others. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1982, serving on the V.F.W. Honor Guard and as V.F.W. Bingo Chairman for many years.He served as post cammander for four years and District commander for two years Mr. Moreland also drove the Disabled American Veterans van for many years, and had served as assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. Mr. Morelands survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary Joyce Broussard Moreland of New Iberia, formerly of Weeks Island; sons, Robert L. Moreland, Jr and wife, Rhonda of Loreauville and John K. Moreland of Lake Lotawana, MO; daughters, Nancine Griffith and husband, Charles, Debra Boutte and husband, Allen, and Brenda Matias and husband, Alvaro, all of New Iberia; brothers, Paul Moreland of Canton, OH, Jack Moreland and wife, Helen of Canton, OH, and Charles Moreland of Tempe, AZ; sister, Patty Starcher and husband, Paul of Canton, OH; grandchildren, Christina and Brandi Trosclair, Allen James Boutte II, Mary Elisabeth Griffith, Robby, Franklin, and Christopher Moorehart, Rocky Blaze II, Diamond Moreland, and Zachary Moreland; and great-grandchildren, Braylyn Boutte, Alexia Prince, Kristian, Haley, and Kayla Trosclair, Makayla Moorehart, Dominique Comeaux, Madison Hinds, and Brittlynn Suire. Preceding Mr. Moreland in death are his parents, John T. Moreland, Sr. and Hazel Stewart Moreland; brothers, John T. Moreland, Jr, Larry Moreland, and Harold Moreland; sisters, Nancy Moreland, Zoella Lockard, and Myrtle Weaver; and a granddaughter, Sharon Rose Griffith. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert L. Moreland, Jr., John K. Moreland, Allen J. Boutte, Allen J. Boutte II, Alvaro Matias, and Rocky Blaze II. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana or other local charity. David Funeral Home of New Iberia has been entrusted with arrangements.
