Lafayette - Ivy Joseph Bourque, 93, of Youngsville, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2006, at his residence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Monday, March 13, 2006, at St. Anne Catholic Church, in Youngsville, with Rev. Louis Vu as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Reader for the Mass will be Deborah Bourque. Gift Bearers include Michaela Lapoint, Lindsey Neveu, Nicole Neveu, Chelsea Richard, Madison Neveu, Bayli Neveu, and Chloe Neveu. Born on June 14, 1912, Ivy was a farmer all of his life, as a child on the family farm, as a sharecropper after marriage, and the owner of his own farm later on. He specialized in sugar cane farming and operated a cane derrick and hauling business to C.S. Steen Syrup Mill with his wife Eunice for many years. After retiring from the sugar cane business, he had a cattle herd and attended the cattle sale at Dominiques Stockyard every Wednesday. He had a strong work ethic believing that work had to be done right and timely. Until recently, he kept busy with his garden and fruit trees, giving most of the produce away to family and friends. He was a member of the Vermilion Parish Farm Bureau, and a former member of the American Simmental Association. Survivors include his children, James Bourque and wife Lona of Youngsville, Jeanette Neveu and husband Craig of Youngsville; grandchildren, Deborah Bourque, Dale Bourque, Chad Neveu, Barry Neveu, Nicholas Neveu, Mark Neveu, Kevin Bourque, Chelsea Richard, Michaela Lapoint; great grandchildren, Sean Richard, Kristin Bourque, Matthew Bourque, Lindsey Neveu, Madison Neveu, Nicole Neveu, Stephen Neveu, Brock Neveu, Bayli Neveu, Chloe Neveu, Drake Neveu, Kourtney Bourque, Tyler Bourque, Evan Lapoint, Dylan Lapoint; sisters, Laurice Guidry of Abbeville, Gladys Bienvenu of Erath, Agnes Foreman of Abbeville, Marie Bourque of Bridge City, Texas; brothers, Alton Bourque of Abbeville, Peterman Bourque of Abbeville; special friend, Vernice Long of Abbeville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Breaux Bourque; parents, Philogene and Marie Cleomire Romero Bourque; sons, Gerald Bourque and Michael Bourque; brothers, Harris Bourque and Mesmar Bourque; sisters, Ella Viator and Eve Romero. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Chad Neveu, Nicholas Neveu, Barry Neveu, Mark Neveu, Dale Bourque, and Kevin Bourque. Honorary pallbearers are Sean Richard, Matthew Bourque, Stephen Neveu, Brock Neveu, Drake Neveu, Tyler Bourque, Evan Lapoint, and Dylan Lapoint. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM at David Funeral Home, in Lafayette. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the St. Anne Catholic Church Restoration Fund or Vermilionville.
