Lafayette- Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 1 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Broussard for Jeanette Granny Girouard Bernard,78. She was born on January 22, 1927 and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 9, 2006 at 6:47 PM at Maison De Lafayette Nursing Home. The Rev. Richard Favre will conduct the funeral service with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Church cemetery. Granny was a native and lifelong resident of the Broussard/Youngsville area. She was a graduate of Broussard High School where she was a member of the Varsity Basketball Team. She was a loving wife and mother who will be fondly remembered as a fun loving person who enjoyed life and tried to keep everyone around her happy and laughing with her quick sense of humor, her witty comments and her practical jokes. She enjoyed company and surrounded herself with family and friends. She made everyone feel at home with her smile and humor. She made friends easily and never met a stranger. She often opened her home and her heart to family and friends who needed a helping hand, and never asked for anything in return. She will always be remembered for kindness and good deeds to others. As the original owner of the Grannys Roundup for over 17 years on Highway 92, she entertained and fed her countless friends who came to enjoy her coffee and humor. She was an active member of VFW Post 9210 Ladies Auxiliary for many many years. She loved to sing along to her juke box, dancing, fishing, camping and card games. Flowers and vegetables flourished in her garden with her amazing green thumb. She was especially known for her beautiful roses which thrived under her care. She is survived by a son, Andy Steven Bernard and his wife Nancy Delahoussaye of Broussard, LA and a daughter Sandra Bernard Cormier and her husband Bryant P. Cormier of Youngsville, LA; two grandchildren Deidra Bernard Feagle and her husband Joseph and Dana Polo Abshire and his wife Heather, both of Youngsville; one Step grandson, Ryon Tabb of Broussard, LA; five Great Grandchildren, Jade Bernard, Mikal Bernard, Kandice Langlinais, Ethan Abshire, and Avery Boudreaux, all of Youngsville; two Step great grandchildren, Joseph Feagle, and Dennis Feagle, both of Youngsville; two surviving siblings, a sister, Gertrude G. Viator of New Iberia, and a brother Ned Girouard of Broussard; a special aunt, Verna Gautreaux of New Iberia; God children, Aline Viator Dunkin of Texas City,TX, Joey Girouard of Broussard, Sherry T. Miller of New Iberia, and Lisa Sellers Fisher of New Iberia; and several special friends, Maxine Quillin, Mildred Menard, and Patsy Cathey. She is preceded in death by her husband, Aurelie P. T-June Bernard, Jr., her father, Elie Girouard and Lucille Gautreaux Girouard, six brothers, John Girouard, Dennis Girouard, Robert Westley Girouard, Alvin Coco Girouard, Earless Girouard, Allen Girouard; three sisters, Carmen Viator, Nola Girouard, and Bernice Girouard, and one god child, Beverly Viator David. Serving as pallbearers will be Dana Polo Abshire, Jade Bernard, Mikal Bernard, Ryon Tabb, Joseph Feagle, and David Girouard. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Steven Bernard, Bryant P. Cormier, Roland Viator, Joey Girouard, and Ethan Abshire. The family would like to express a word of gratitude to Nurse Linda Lane, Hospice of Acadiana, and Dr. Jorge Belgodere for the dedicated and compassionate service which they showed Jeanette. The family requests that visitation be observed Tuesday, April 11, 2006 from 11 AM till 9 PM and continue Wednesday from 9 AM till time of service.
