New Iberia " Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00PM Wednesday June 28, 2006 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for Samuel J. Sammy Romero, Age 93, who died at his residence Monday June 26, 2006 at 12:23PM. Visitation will begin Tuesday from 5:00PM till 9:00PM with a rosary at 7:30PM. Visitation will begin again Wednesday from 8:00AM till service time.Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Born in Avery Island, Mr. Sammy has been a longtime resident of New Iberia having worked for the Iberia Parish Government for 35 years as building engineer and owned and operated Royal Floor Maintenance. He was an avid golfer and loved entertaining and bird watching. He was married to his wife Grace for 66 years. He is survived by his wife, the former Grace Delcambre;his children Whitney Romero of Lafayette, Bobby Romero of Houston, Texas, Terry R. Mcguckin of New Orleans, La., Guy Romero and wife Joni of Sugarland, Texas, Tony Romero and wife Assunta of New Iberia and Babette Schmitz and husband John of Midlothian, Virginia; one brother, Ray Romero of New Iberia; four grandsons, Sean and Brendan McGuckin both of New Orleans, Alex Schmitz of Midlothian, Virginia and Vitaly Romero of Sugarland, Texas; six Granddaughters, Samantha Schmitz of Midlothian, Virginia, Amy Wendell and Husband Jake of Minot, North Dakota, Mary Francis Romero of Van Couver, British Columbia, Lily, Hope and Alesya Romero all of Sugarland, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Romero, Sr. and Eugenia Louviere Romero; a daughter Mary Romero; three sisters, Nora Lovas, Martha Derouen and Margaret Dugas. Pallbearers will be Tony Romero, Guy Romero, Bobby Romero, Sean McGuckin, Brendan McGuckin, Pat Collins and Whitney Romero. Honorary pallbearers are Brother Robert OKane and Ray Romero. David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
