New Iberia"Inez Marie Nez Broussard Bass was a unique woman who made an imprint on many lives. She was a vibrant individual who enjoyed learning, and who believed education was priceless and could never be taken away. Her quest for education extended beyond the classrooms at University of Southwestern Louisiana, where she attended courses such as psychology and sign language, and into the Pre-K classrooms at Johnston Street Elementary and Hopkins Street Elementary as a Paraprofessional. Former students still send graduation cards and wedding invitations to their favorite teacher"Ms. Bass.

As owner of Gay-Nez Flowers and Gifts for many years, Inez was able to show off her creativity in floristry, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and many other areas of art. She was in love with learning the latest in crafting, sewing, crocheting, and design.

Inez, affectionately know as Nez , was also known for her eccentricity. Commonly seen around town with her blue petal cap and hair in pin curls, she was never one to follow the norm. She always believed in being a leader, not a follower, and instilled that belief in her son and grandchildren. Most people cannot achieve a fraction of what this wonderful and talented woman achieved on this Earth. She will never be forgotten, and will be missed by all the people whose lives she touched.

A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Inez Bass passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 9:51 A.M. at the age of 73 in a New Iberia hospital.
