Therese Laperouse Wood

Mrs. Therese Wood, a native of St. Martinville and a resident of Lafayette passed away at 9:16AM on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at her residence, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was a graduate of USL with a major in Education. She taught in the Lafayette Parish School System. Mrs. Therese Wood was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her grandchildren knew her a Mimi. Therese enjoyed playing bridge and bourre`e. She was a member of many bridge clubs including, Newcomers, Queen of Hearts, Oil Wives and the New Acadiens. She loved spending time in her flower garden and fishing. Therese was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert M. Wood; a son, Herbert P. Wood, and two daughters; Sherry W. Goudeau of Lafayette and Angela W. Douet and husband Tony of St. Martinville; ten grandchildren, Dustin, Damen Danika, Derek and D.J. Wood, Meagan and Emily Goudeau, Colby, Ashley and Madison Douet; two great grandchildren; Keegan and Karis Wood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertrand Laperouse and Felicie Barras Laperouse of St. Martinville; a sister, Thelma L. Romero; and two brothers, Freddie and Charles Laperouse all of St. Martinville.

Serving as pallbearers will be Herbert P. Wood, Dustin H. Wood, Damen R. Wood, Derek K. Wood, D.J. Wood, Tony J. Douet, Colby J. Douet and S. Todd LeBlanc.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana.
