New Iberia " Funeral services will be conducted for James J. Simon, Sr., 77, on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at 2:00 PM in the David Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Jimmy Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum with military graveside rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1982 of New Iberia.
Visitation will begin on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM and a rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
A native of Rayne and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Simon died on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 at 6:20 PM in a New Iberia hospital. He retired as a Dispatcher with Diamond Shamrock and was veteran or World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. He loved gardening, going to the casino and cooking for his family.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice Gautreaux Simon of New Iberia; sons, James J. Simon, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Lydia and Noah Tony Simon of New Iberia; daughters, Linda Bell and her husband Jim of Nederland, TX, Mona Simon, Teresa Simon, and Cheryl Morris and her husband Chad all of New Iberia and his brother, Wallace Simon of Rayne.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and his favorite pet "Taco".
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Simon; mother, Winnie Legnon Simon; sister, Jeanette Sims and his brother, Noah Simon.
Pallbearers will be Chad Morris, Ben Gonzales, James Simon, III, Shea Simon, Seth Gachassin and James Simon, Jr..
Honorary pallbearers will be Wallace Simon and Jim Bell.
David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
