Gloria Gonsoulin Bishop

Loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother Jeanerette- Services for Gloria Gonsoulin Bishop, 84, will be conducted at 12 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist with Rev. Edward Degeyter and Rev. Augustinus Seran officiating. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 9a.m. until the time of service at David Funeral Home in Jeanerette. A lifelong resident of Jeanerette, Mrs. Bishop died Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at her residence. Mrs. Bishop served in the United States Navy from June 1, 1943 until August 21, 1946. She worked in the hospital wards and pharmacy where she met her husband of 59 years, Donald Don J. Bishop Sr. She was an active member of the Jeanerette community. Mrs. Bishop was known for her warm smile and gentle eyes that never met a stranger. She is fondly remembered by family members for daily meals and a loving greeting for everyday lunch. In the spring she could be found picking blackberries or figs in order to make preserves for neighbors and children. The tradition of crawfish bisque for each of her grandchilds first communion will never be forgotten. She is survived by her three sons, one daughter and ten grandchildren; Donald Rocky J. Bishop Jr. and wife Karen, Clint Bishop, Stuart Bishop and Lee Bishop; John Bishop and wife Lucinda, Bart Bishop and Corbin Bishop; Brett Bishop and wife Sherry, Brennan Bishop and Christopher Bishop; Marsha Bishop Pugh and husband Michael Micky Pugh Sr., Gretchen Pugh Lipari, Michael Pugh Jr., David Pugh; one brother Dr. Harold Gonsoulin; all of Jeanerette; and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. Bishop was preceded in death by her father Joseph Big Joe F. Gonsoulin; her mother Mathidle Bienvenue Gonsoulin; her sisters Ellodie Gonsoulin; Mary Ann Gonsulin Miller; her brother Joseph Gonsoulin Jr.; her husband Donald J. Bishop Sr.; and her daughter Donna Maria Bishop. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
