LOVING MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER, AND GREAT-GRANDMOTHER

New Iberia"Funeral services for Mrs. George McCartney, the former Irene Barfield, 83, of Jeanerette will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Roland Fontenot will officiate. Entombment will follow in Beau Pre Mausoleum, Jeanerette.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 from 11:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home.

Mrs. McCartney passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 9:35 A.M. in her Jeanerette residence.

A native of Winnsboro, Mrs. McCartney had been a resident of Iberia Parish since 1958. She was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church. Mrs. McCartney enjoyed sewing and ironing, playing pokeno, gardening, and had traveled throughout the United States. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of which will miss her dearly.

Remaining to cherish Mrs. McCartneys memory are her son, Shelby Day and wife, Tela of New Iberia; daughters, Gloria Thibodeaux of Jeanerette, Phyliss Boudreaux and husband, Whitney, Sr. of New Iberia, Darlene Edsall and husband, Sarge of Ocala, FL, and Karen Williams and husband, Charles of New Iberia; sister, Essie Barfield of Winnsboro; brother, J.S. Barfield and wife, Doris of Tyler, TX; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceding Mrs. McCartney in death were her husband, George McCartney; parents, Felix and Emma Posey Barfield; sisters, Ophelia Housley, Edna Jones, and Fannie Barfield; brothers, William and Sherman Barfield; great-grandsons, Jake Simon and Caleb Ackal; and son-in-law, Anthony Thibodeaux, Jr.

Serving as pallbearers are Lisa Simon, Elizabeth Segura, Traci Darby, Dede Duckett, Brooke Williams, Josie Boudreaux, Jody Boudreaux, and Tonya Day. Named as honorary pallbearers are Emily Williams, Judy Day, Christine Ackal, Amanda Day, Shelly Fiero, Alicia Day, Megan Theriot, Ashleigh Theriot, Shelby Segura, Molly Segura, Courtney Thibodeaux, Mallorie Williams, Samantha Williams, Annie Williams, Cassie Edsall, McKenna Edsall, Kaleigh Ackal, Megan Reaux, and Jennifer Boudreaux.

David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
