New Iberia ~ Funeral Services will be conducted for Mr. Gustin L. Gus Dartez, age 85 At 2:00 PM Saturday May 19, 2007 at St. Peters Catholic Church with Rev. Jude Halphen officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum. A rosary will be prayed Friday May 18, 2007 at 6:30 PM at the funeral home.
Visiting hours will be observed Friday May 18, 2007 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will resume Saturday May 19, 2007 from 10:00 AM until time of services.
Gus died Tuesday May 15, 2007 at 8:00 AM in a New Iberia Hospital.
Gus prior to his retirement was employed by Walter Edwards Shipyard. He was a devout Catholic, a staunch Democrat and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WW II. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1982 Funeral Honor Guard.
Gus was a happy person who loved to tell jokes. He would engage anyone he could in a political discussion, which would usually end with him smiling and you shaking your head. When Gus was able to, he loved to work outside and tinker in his garage full of tools. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1208 and an usher at St. Peters Church for 30 years.
Remaining to cherish Gus memory are his wife of 60 years Florella Flo Breaux Dartez of New Iberia his daughters Tonia Khosropour and her husband Farzin (Fozie) of Coteau; Linda Vanderbrook and her husband Joe of Silverton, Oregon; daughter-in-law Amelia Duplantis Dartez of New Iberia, grandchildren Tadj and Matthew Khosropour of New Iberia, Dr. John Young and wife Kalen of Silverton, Oregon; Dr. Scott Young and his wife Nikki of Tampa, Florida; and Stephanie and Zachary Dartez of New Iberia.
Preceding Gus in death are his two sons, Brian Edward and Stephen Adam Dartez, his parents Rosa David Dartez and Hypolite Dartez, and his seven siblings: Beulah Hebert, Violia Delcambre, Nella Melancon, Larry Dartez, Luches Dartez, and Lawrence Dartez.
Pallbearers will be Farzin Khosropour, Matthew Khosropour, Drake Thibodeaux, Dr. John Young, Dr. Scott Young and Zachary Dartez.
Special memories for Gus were the times that he and Flo spent daily with his friends, Elaine Sonnier, Melinda Robichaux and Cathy Dore of New Iberia. The Dartez, Khosropour and Vanderbrook families sincerely appreciate the excellent care and personal matter in which Dr. Jesus Garcia treated their father throughout the years.
