LOVING MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER Jeanerette"A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Roland Genest, the former Rella Myers, 81, will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 1:30 P.M. in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. The Reverend Charles Langlois will serve as celebrant. Entombment will follow in St. Nicholas Catholic Mausoleum, Patoutville. Visiting hours will be observed on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 from 9:00 A.M. until service time in David Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 11:00 A.M. Mrs. Genest passed away on Monday, June 18, 2007 at 12:17 A.M. in a New Iberia hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Iberia Parish, Mrs. Genest was very active in the community, having done much volunteer work at St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School and Canal Street Elementary School. She also taught religion classes for 16 years at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Lydia. Mrs. Genest enjoyed quilting and needlework, but her greatest joy was caring for her family. Survivors include her son, David Joseph Genest, Sr. and wife Kathy of Jeanerette; daughter, Sherry G. Derise and husband, Michael, Sr. of New Iberia; grandchildren, Tess G. Langlois, David Genest, Jr., Brandy D. Stansbury, Michael Derise, Jr., and Genee Derise; and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Stuart Genest, Baleigh and Bryce Stansbury, and Brianna Oubre Derise. Preceding Mrs. Genest in death were her husband, Roland Genest; brother, Wilton Bobby Myers; and parents, Annie Basay and Avia Broussard Myers. Serving as pallbearers are Michael Derise, Jr., Daryl Langlois, David Genest, Jr., Stuart Genest, Michael Derise, Sr., and Sam Stansbury, Jr. Named as honorary pallbearers are David Genest, Sr., Thomas Genest, Jr., Loveless Myers, Larry Myers, and Richard Glaubrecht, Jr. David Funeral Home of Jeanerette is in charge of arrangements.
