Broussard " A Celebration of Life Service for Barbara Lanaux Benson, 84, will be held at 3:00PM on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Broussard. Father Keith Landry will officiate the services. A native of Morgan City and resident of Broussard, Mrs. Benson passed away at 1:00PM on Friday, August 7, 2009 at Lafayette General Medical Center. One of Barbaras earliest memories was the flood of 1927. She was in the Nursing Corps during World War II in San Antonio, TX and a volunteer in the San Fransisco Senior Center Aquatic Park. She was the mother of eight children. She loved her family, the beach and her Catholic faith. She was an enthusiast of geneology and politics and was a lifetime member of the Founders of Natchitoches. She is survived by five children, Sandra W. Sexton and husband Thomas of Silver Creek, GA, Phillip R. Benson of Katy, TX, Barbara C. Benson Barrow and husband Wylie of Carencro, Christina Lewis and husband Michael of Dillonvale, OH, and Christopher Benson and wife Laura of Elgin, TX; fourteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her friend and honorary daughter, Susan Plourde. She was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Billy Ray Benson; her parents, Jules J. and Cecile Bouterie Lanaux; and her children, Janie Benson, Jeffrey Benson and Victoria Cecile Benson. The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana, Meals on Wheels, the volunteers of the Shut-in Outreach Program at Sacred Heart Church of Broussard, and the oncology department at Lafayette General Medical Center.
