Erath " Funeral services will be held at 1:00 on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Erath for Harry I. Hulin who passed away at 2:55 am at Abbeville General Hospital. Interment will follow at the church mausoleum. Father Broussard will officiate. Mr. Hulin was born April 4, 1922 in Charogne, a small rural community north of Erath. He resided there all his life. He was a graduate of Erath High School. Harry was a veteran of WWII having served in Germany. He first learned carpentry from his father, continuing to become a master builder. He worked for many years for Romero and Theall Lumber Company. He built, repaired or remodeled many businesses and residences in the city of Lafayette and the areas surrounding Erath, Abbeville, and Youngsville. Later he became a building inspector for the Federal Housing Authority. Harry was a lifetime member and past commander of American Legion Post 279, member of VFW post 4158 and Knights of Columbus 3872. He belonged to the Woodmen of the World, International Good Neighbors and the Family of Beau Soleil Broussard. He was an honorary member of the LeBlanc Volunteer Fire Department. He loved to travel and in retirement enjoyed flower gardening, especially day lilies. He will be remembered for his sparkling sense of humor. Mr. Hulin is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Sadie Mae Bernard Hulin; one daughter, Glenda; two grandsons Murphy James Hulin and Colby Dale Hulin and four great-grand children. He is also survived by a sister,Elsie "Tootsie" H. LeBlanc, her husband Opta "Black" LeBlanc, three nieces and and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father Theo Hulin, mother Blanche Ricaud Hulin, step-mother Lucy Bernard Hulin, sisters Opal Hulin, Wilma H. Broussard and her husband Nelson P. Broussard of Rice Cove. Also preceding him in death were his in- laws John and Lona Broussard Bernard and a brother-in-law Felix Urban "Bill" Bernard. The family requests that visitation be Wednesday, January 6 from 3:00 to 9:00 and Thursday, January 7, 2010 from 8:00 until the time of the military funeral at David Funeral Home in Erath. Rosaries will be recited by the Catholic Daughters and Ladies Altar Society at 5pm and the Knights of Columbus at 7pm on Wednesday. Pall bearers are members of American Legion Post 279. Honorary pall bearers are Pepe Castro, Herman Suire, Russell Suire, and Johnny Trangmar.
