Ethel Flowers Kendrick

Erath - A Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Travis A. Kendrick, the former Ethel Flowers 84, will be held on Wednesday,July 11, 2007 at 3:00PM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Delcambre with Fr. Doug Courville officiating. Burial will follow in the Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Erath. Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Erath Tuesday, July 10, 2007 from 4:00pm until 9:00pm, and Wednesday, July 11, from 8AM until time of services. A Rosary will be recited by the Catholic Daughters on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 5:00PM. and a Community Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 7:00PM. Mrs. Ethel passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning at Abbeville General Hospital. Mrs. Kendrick more fondly referred to by several generations as Mama K , began her teaching career in Erath in 1944. She taught every grade in elementary except second and third. She also taught grades seven through twelve girls health and physical education. In the last six years of her teaching career, she was a guidance counselor at Youngsville Elementary and Erath. Basketball and softball were the favorite sports for Mrs Kendrick, not as a player, but as the Erath Bobkitten coach. She coached softball for eight years, 1944-47 and 1951-56. She also coached basketball from 1951 to 1960. Mrs. Kendrick served as Erath High cheerleaders sponsor for several years. She also served as official scorer for the boys basketball, football and track teams. Mrs. Kendrick left retirement in 2000 to serve as guidance counselor for Henry elementary and Dozier elementary in Erath. Mrs. Kendrick has touched the hearts of several generations; she will be deeply missed by her family, students, and friends. Mrs. Kendrick will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, counselor, coach, and teacher. We will remember you always Mama K , especially on Friday nights when the announcer yells, EVERYBODY UP FOR THE KICKOFF! , We will see your big smile, and fill with Bobcat pride, as we glance over to that spot high in the stands where your cheers will forever echo, GO! BIG! BLUE!, Survivors include her loving husband and best friend of 63 years Mr. Travis A. Kendrick of Erath, Her Sister Doris F. Melancon of Erath, Her Beloved Foster son Paul MC Trahan of Erath and His wife Marilyn M. Trahan, who is also Mrs. Kendricks godchild. Grandson Paul F. Trahan, His wife Pearle, and their 3 sons Blake, Trevor, and Garrett all of Erath. Granddaughter Mary Elise Trahan of Erath, and Grandson John Travis Trahan and his wife Melissa of Youngsville. Niece Mary Huval of Henry her husband Oray Huval and their 2 children Katie and Chelsey. Niece Celina Bergeron and her husband Guy Bergeron of Erath. Great-niece Amy Wilson of Erath. Great-niece Kelli Hollier of Erath, her husband John Derek Hollier and their two children Karoline and Isabella. Great-nephew Guy Toogie Bergeron of Erath, and Great-niece Ahna Maria Bergeron also of Erath, Nephew Conrad Flowers of New Orleans, Nephew John Doyle Flowers of Georgia, and her loving sitter of 3 years and dear friend Mrs. Carol Lynn Ozenne of Abbeville. She was preceded in death by her son baby Kendrick who died in childbirth, her parents: Emory Flowers and the former Celine Dupre, Brother-in-law Iry J. Melancon, Aunts: Beatrice, and Lucy Dupre, Cousins: Wallace and Cecile Sis Dupre, and Half brothers Francis and JD Flowers. David Funeral Home of Erath will be handling the arrangements
