New Iberia " Funeral Services will be conducted for Mr. Edwin J. E.J. Viator, Jr at 11:00AM Saturday August 25, 2007 at David Funeral Home Chapel with Father Charles Langlois officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors at St. Peters Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday August 24, 2007 from 4:00PM until 9:00PM with a Rosary at 7:00PM and again Saturday from 8:00AM until time of service. He died Thursday August 23, 2007 at 5:10AM at Iberia Medical Center.
A native of New Iberia Mr. Viator was born September 17, 1921 to Edwin and Oza Guidry Viator. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Kurt Edwin Viator as well as his grandson, Jeffery Patout.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rita Broussard Viator as well as his two daughters, Annette Marie Viator and Lisa V. McGee and her husband Lee. Also surviving are his sisters, Elder (Mrs. Sue) Hebert, Geraldine (Mrs. Lawless) Dore, Gloria Peltier and one brother Kevin Viator and his wife Missy. In addition, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Edwin (Claudia) Viator. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Kurt Eppley, Matthew Crane, Nicole Arnold and Meagan Patout and his great grandsons, Daniel Eppley and Avery Crane.
Mr. Viator was a decorated veteran of World War II and a past Company Commander of the National Guard. He was employed with his father at Teche Wholesale, was a partner in Vuillemot and Viator Realtors and retired as a senior appraiser at Iberia Bank.
He was a member of the VFW, was a former Civil Defense Director of Iberia, member and former president of the Iberia Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and Iberia Jaycees. He was an American Association of Certified Appraiser. He served on the Iberia Sugar Cane festival Board and was a City Councilman for New Iberia.
Pallbearers will be Kurt Eppley, Matthew Crane, Kevin Viator, Ronnie Broussard, James Bruce Broussard and Michael Patout.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Lee McGee, Nicole Arnold, Meagan Patout, Daniel Eppley, Avery Crane, Andrew Armentor, Olton Hebert, Donald Poche, Tommy Dore, David Robin and Andy Hebert.
