1937 " 2008 Loreauville"A Mass of Christian Burial for Alton Joseph Barras, 70, will be celebrated on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 2:30 P.M. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Reverend Ed Degeyter will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, with a rosary being recited at 6:30 P.M. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home. Mr. Barras passed away on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 6:20 P.M. in a St. Martinville care facility. A native and lifelong resident of Loreauville, Mr. Barras was a sugarcane farmer for many years, and he proudly served on the Board of Directors for Iberia Sugar Coop from 1973 until 1996. He also worked for Broussard Marine Service for 20 years until his retirement in 2003. Mr. Barras was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Gaynell Bodin Barras of Loreauville; daughters, Melissa Missy Broussard and husband, Patrick of New Iberia, Karen Musso of New Iberia, and Charlotte Granger and husband, Fraise of Rockwall, TX; grandchildren, Carolyn Broussard of Lafayette, E.J. Broussard of New Iberia, Kristin Musso of New Iberia, Ryan Musso of New Iberia, Megan Granger of Rockwall, TX, and Bryce Granger of Rockwall, TX; brother, Oswald Barras and wife, Lurlean of Lafayette; and sisters-in-law, Hazel Barras of Loreauville and Delores Eastin and husband, Ray of New Iberia. Preceding Mr. Barras in death were his parents, Paul and Edna Braquet Barras; and brothers, Gerald Jay Barras and Earl Barras. Serving as pallbearers are E.J. Broussard, Patrick Broussard, Fraise Granger, Kevin Barras, Creed Barris, Frank Musso, and Steve Barras. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of the Alzheimers unit at St. Martinville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their patience and compassion during these past months. David Funeral Home of Loreauville, 118 Main Street, 229-8338 is in charge of arrangements.
