Loving Father and Grandfather

Jeanerette"Funeral services for Mr. Whitney James Snook Vernon, 60, will be held on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Theo Landry will officiate. Interment with honors rendered by various area and local law enforcement agencies will follow in Beau Pre Cemetery, Jeanerette.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2008 from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, with a rosary being recited at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home.

Mr. Vernon passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 12:30 P.M. in a New Iberia hospital.

A native of Youngsville and longtime resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Vernon was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He served the Jeanerette community as a police officer for 22 years, retiring as assistant chief of the Jeanerette Police Department. He enjoyed playing golf and softball, and was an avid LSU fan. His greatest joy in life, however, was being with and spoiling his only grandchild, Kelsie.

Survivors include his son, Thomas Tommy Vernon and wife, Rachel of Jeanerette; mother, Mable Touchet Vernon of Broussard; former wife, Cecile Johnson; granddaughter, Kelsie Vernon of Jeanerette; nieces, Trisha Labit and husband, Jeremy of Parks and Stacy Vernon of Broussard; and nephew, Jeremy Jones of Parks.

Preceding Mr. Vernon in death were his father, Willie Vernon; and brother, Bradley Vernon.

Serving as pallbearers are Bruce Broussard, Kenny Rogers, Harley Hebert, Blake landry, Jeffrey Guardia, Jeremy Guardia, Ryan Courville, and Jeremy Jones. Named as honorary pallbearers are Roy Simpson, Roy Petitfils, and Ron Badeaux.

David Funeral Home of Jeanerette, 400 Provost Street, 276-5151 is in charge of arrangements.
