Devoted Father & Husband New Iberia " Funeral services will be conducted for Felix Antonio Serrate, 86, on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007 at 2:00 PM in the David Funeral Home Parlor with Father Charles Langlois, Pastor of St. Peters Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow at Beau Pre Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will begin on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007 at 12:30 PM until services. A native of Havana, Cuba and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Serrate died on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 at 11:15 AM in a New Iberia hospital. He studied at the University of Havana with a Major in Electrical Engineering. He came to the United States in 1963 as a political refugee and settled in New Iberia. He became a U.S. Citizen in 1970. He was employed as an Administrator in the sugar industry in Cuba and was employed first by Cajun Sugar Co Op, then retired from Iberia Sugar Co Op in 1989. He is survived by his son, Carlos Antonio Serrate and his wife Angie of Madison, GA; his daughter, Gloria McGee and her husband Randy of Kansas City, MO; his grandsons, Robert Serrate of Lexington, KY and Michael Serrate of Richmond, VA; his granddaughter, Leah Janelle McGee of Kansas City, MO and his caregiver and special friend, Claudette Joseph of New Iberia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Nery Perez Serrate; his parents, Felix Carlos Serrate and Dulce Montenegro Serrate. Pallbearers will be Carlos Serrate, Robert Serrate, Jose Fernandez, Rafael Bedia, Orlando Sosas and Jerome Gaspard. David Funeral Home of New Iberia, 1101 Trotter St. (337) 369-6336 is in charge of arrangements.
