New Iberia " Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Lester A. Gonsoulin, Sr., the former Mary Wilhelmina Porter, 93, at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 3, 2007 at St. Peters Catholic Church with Fr. Jude Halphen officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peters Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Sunday, September 2, 2007 at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and resume on Monday, September 3, 2007 at 8:00 AM until services. Deacon Jimmy Wilson will pray a rosary in the funeral home on Sunday at 7:00 PM. A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Gonsoulin died on Friday, August 31, 2007 at 9:10 AM in a New Iberia nursing home. She was a Graduate of L.S.U. where she was a member of AD PI Sorority and taught in the Iberia Parish School System and at Mount Carmel Convent. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a charter member of Fortnightly III and a member of the Louisiana Colonials. She enjoyed visiting with her great grandson, Tyler and her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Gonsoulin was one of these rare individuals who never ever raised her voice or said an unkind word about anyone " A Gracious Southern Lady She was survived by her daughter, Cathy Templeton and her husband Perry of New Iberia; son, Lester A. Gonsoulin, Jr. of Lafayette; grandsons, Parker Templeton and his wife Carrie of New Iberia and Steven Templeton and his fiancee Summer Duncan of Houston, TX; great grandson, Tyler Porter Templeton of New Iberia; and her brother, Henry D. Porter and his wife Aline of New Iberia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Lester A. Gonsoulin, Sr.; her father, former Superintendent of Iberia Parish Schools Lloyd G. Porter, Sr.; her mother, Henrietta Dauterive Porter; her grandson, Marcus A. Templeton; her sister, Barbara E. Porter; and her brothers, Lloyd G. Porter, Jr. and Thomas F. Porter, III. Pallbearers will be Russell Gonsoulin, Jr., Courtland Porter, Josh Porter, Garrett Porter, Parker Templeton and Steven Templeton. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to Catholic High School Building Fund, 1301 de LaSalle Dr. New Iberia, LA 70560. David Funeral Home of New Iberia, 1101 Trotter St., (337) 369-6336, is in charge of the arrangements.
