Preston Joseph Martin, Jr.

Services for Preston PJ Joseph Martin, Jr., 78, will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Arnaud officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with military graveside service conducted by VFW Post 1982 of New Iberia. Visiting hours will be observed Saturday, February 9, 2008 from 9:00 AM until the time of service with a rosary being recited at 10:30 AM at David Funeral Home. A native of Houma and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Martin died at 3:45 PM Thursday, February 7, 2008, in a New Iberia hospital. Mr. Martin was a retired salesman. He enjoyed cooking and fishing. Never meeting a stranger, PJ loved talking and visiting with family and friends. He served in the United States Navy from 1947 until 1950. He is survived by his son, Glenn Martin and wife Colleen of Crosby, Texas; daughters, Jackie McFarland and husband Michael of New Iberia, Terri Waters and husband Steve of Guyton, Georgia, and Michelle Wadas and husband Joseph of Richmond Hill, Georgia; sister, Marie Christensen of River Ridge; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Bienvenue Martin; parents, Preston J. Martin Sr. and Ovelia Fouquier Martin; brother, Earl Palooka Martin; and a sister, Beulah M. Lamaison. Pallbearers will be Matthew McFarland, Layne McFarland, Nikolas Bodin, Leon Thrash, Jimmy Lynn Dupuy and Dr. Chris Dupuy. Honorary pallbearers will be Payton Landry, Joe Martin, Baile Bourque, Trae Martin and the residents of St. Gabriel Manor. David Funeral Home of New Iberia, 1101 Trotter Street (337) 369-6336, is in charge of the arrangements.
