New Iberia " Funeral services will be conducted for Douglas J. Vice, 78, on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 12:00 PM at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with Father Michael J. Arnaud officiating. Interment will follow in Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum in Delcambre with Military Graveside Rites conducted by V. F. W. Post 1982 of New Iberia. Visitation will begin on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM and resume on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 8:00 AM until services. The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly 321 will pray the rosary in the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM. A native of Vermilion Parish, a former resident of Franklin and a resident of New Iberia most of his life, Mr. Vice died on Monday, August 17, 2009 at 6:44 AM upon arrival at a New Iberia hospital. At the age of 9, Mr. Vice and his family moved to Port Arthur, TX and graduated from Bishop Byrne High School and moved back to Louisiana in 1954. He lived in Franklin for 24 years and retired from Columbia Chemical. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Navy. He coached Little League Baseball, Biddy Basketball and Semi-Pro Baseball. He also refereed high school basketball, umpired American League and refereed Pee Wee Football. He bowled for years, played Horseshoe for the K Cs and loved to fish and hunt with his children and grandchildren. He was a Golden Feather Weight Boxer and was married for 54 years to his wife, the former Peggy Hymel, who was born and raised in Delcambre. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1208, a 3rd Degree Knight, was KC of the Year and recruited new members as Membership Director in the KCs. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post in Franklin, a Euchristic Minister at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Optimist Club. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Peggy Hymel Vice of New Iberia; his sons, Daniel J. Vice and his wife Peggy C. of New Iberia, Ralph J. Vice of Ocean Springs, MS, Scott J. Vice and his wife Nicole of Clinton Township, MI and Karl J. Vice of Punta Gorda, FL; his daughter, Roxanne V. LeMaire and her husband Ronald of Hermitage, TN; his grandchildren, Jay and Ronnie LeMaire both of Nashville, TN, Tyler and Brad Vice both of Punta Gorda, FL, Kathryn, Stephen and Rachel Vice all New Iberia, Julia and Vanessa Vice both of Clinton Township, MI, Brandon and Jacob Vice both of Ocean Springs, MS and Jasper Vice of New Orleans; his sister-in-laws, Colleen Vice of Austin, TX, Esther Vice of New Iberia and Helen Vice of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvy and Lucreze LeBlanc Vice; his brothers, Julius, Forrest, Preston, Johnny, Calvin, Daniel and Claude Vice; his sisters, Daisy Armentor, WinnieStracener and Audrey Vice and two granddaughters, Alison and Amanda Vice. Pallbearers will be Tyler, Brad, Jacob, Stephen, Brandon and Jasper Vice, Jay and Ronnie LeMaire.
