Francis Hammons

"Loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather" New Iberia " Funeral Services will be conducted for Mr. Francis Frank Hammons, 92,at 10:00 AM Monday, April 14,2008 at David Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roland Fontenot officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by VFW Post 1982. Visitation will be observed Sunday, April 13, 2008 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM, and resume Monday, April 14, 2008 at 8:00 AM until the time of service at David Funeral Home. Born in the year 1915 near Navasota, Grimes County, Texas, and a resident of New Iberia since 1934, Mr. Hammons died at 4:22 AM Wednesday, April 9, 2008, in a New Iberia hospital. Mr. Hammons, also known as Frank, was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Signal Corps in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He retired from Exxon with 31 ½ years of service as a gas plant operator. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, the Exxon Annuity Club and a lifetime member of VFW Post 1982. Mr. Hammons was married to Isabelle Mergist of Erath, who died in 1980, and was married to Lilly Armentor from 1989 until her death in 2001. Frank enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his son, Jimmy F. Hammons of New Iberia; daughter, Rebecca Hammons of New Iberia; grandchildren, Rachael Hebert, Dawn Hebert, Jimmy F. Hammons, II, Chad Hammons, Francis Hammons, Ashley Hammons, Lisa Hammons and Jill Hammons; step-son, Gil Lopez of New Iberia; step-grandchildren, Bubby, Christine and Keith Lopez; daughter-in-law, Caroline P. Hammons of Shreveport; and great-grandchildren, Bryson and Luke Hammons. His first wife, Isabelle Mergist Hammons; second wife, Lilly Armentor Hammons; son, Lonnie Hammons; parents, Jimmie Davis Breaux and Maury Franklin Hammons; sister, Bebe H. Boudreaux; and a granddaughter, Melissa Porrier, preceded Mr. Hammons in death. Pallbearers will be family and friends. David Funeral Home of New Iberia, 1101 Trotter Street, (337) 369-6336, is in charge of the arrangements.
