Devoted Wife, Mother, and Grandmother

New Iberia"Funeral services and a celebration of life for Esther Barrilleaux Chesson, 82, will be conducted on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Stephanie LeLeux will serve as officiant. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 15, 2008 from 12:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home.

Mrs. Chesson went to be with the Lord at 10:50 A.M. on Thursday, February 14, 2008 in her New Iberia residence, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and friends.

Esther was born in Loreauville to Alphonse J. and Pearl Guidry Barrilleaux on July 28, 1925. In 1941, she met her husband, Hubert, and they married in 1942, right before he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Esther was very active in the lives of her children. She was very involved for several years in Scouting, was a Brownie Troop Leader and Cub Scout den mother, and Boy Scout Leader.

Esther loved a good game of Bingo, crossword puzzles, and hot games of rummy with her daughter, Mary. She also enjoyed baking, which was evidenced in the many goodies prepared, especially at holiday times. Esther even enjoyed picking pecans, which was a staple in her sweet treats. She also enjoyed feeding birds at the bird sanctuary which she created in her yard.

Esther will be greatly missed by her survivors, including her daughters, Fern Chesson Davidson and Mary Chesson Renard of New Iberia; son, Michael Chesson of New Iberia; grandchildren, Eloy J. Dore, Jr. and Erica R. Douzat of New Iberia; great-grandchildren, Elijah M. Dore and Brian Dauzat of New Iberia; and great-great-grandchild, Saige M. Dore of New Iberia.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Hubert Joseph Chesson; parents, Alphonse J. and Pearl Guidry Barrilleaux; sons, Brian J. and Lynn Chesson; brothers, Stanley and Sandy Barrilleaux; sisters, Martha B. Vaughn, Lelia Romero, Lilly Cutrera, and Baillon Barrilleaux; grandson, Bobby Jude B.J. Renard; and canine companion, Penny.

Serving as pallbearers will be Percy Barrilleaux, Cornelius "Corney" Barrilleaux, Terry Menard, Lynn Greer, Paul Broussard and Michael Chesson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eloy J. Dore, Jr., Erica R. Dauzat, Elijah Dore, Brian Dauzat and Saige M. Dore.

David Funeral Home of New Iberia, 1101 Trotter Street, 337-369-6336 is in charge of arrangements.
