Lafayette " Memorial Services for Mrs. Shelton Bowen, the former Martha Jean Stagner, age 75, will be held at 4:00PM on Saturday, February 23,2008 at Riverside Church of Christ, 111 Camellia Blvd, Lafayette. Mrs. Bowen passed away on February 15, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center at 7:22PM. A native of Murray, Kentucky and a resident of Lafayette, Mrs. Bowen was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She delighted in her grandchildren, as they did her. She taught first grade and third grade and later began the Gifted Education Program for Trigg County, Kentucky Schools, introducing them to Odyssey of the Mind.She loved her students and was so proud of their accomplishments. She loved her Lord and was a lifelong student of His Word. She loved learning, reading, and travel. She had a wonderful time seeing the world with her beloved Shelton. Mrs. Bowen is survived by her loving husband, Shelton Bowen; daughter, Dr. Karen Bowen Roden and her husband Russell of Lafayette; son John Shelton Bowen and his wife Kim of Richardson, Texas; grandsons, Thomas Shelton Bowen of Richardson, Texas, Alexander Steven Bowen of Richardson, Texas and John Clifton Roden of Lafayette and granddaughter, Hallie Elizabeth Roden of Lafayette. She is preceded in death by her parents, B.J. and Wilma Obera Edwards Stagner. The family would like to thank Drs. Jody Rossen, Kemp Coreil, and Richard Broussard, as well as the staff of Outpatient Infusion and 5 Central at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America or the Blind Ministry at Riverside Church of Christ.
