New Iberia " Farewell services will be held for Mrs. Gilbert Blanc Migues the former Gertrude Marie Gertie Oubre, Age 84, at 3:00PM Tuesday February 19, 2008 at David Funeral Home Chapel with Father Charles Langlois officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum. Visitation will be Monday February 18, 2008 from 5:00PM until 9:00PM with a Rosary being prayed Monday at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume Tuesday from 8:00AM until service time. Mrs. Migues passed away at her home Sunday February 17, 2008 at 9:30AM.
Gertie (as she was known to her friends) worked and lived her entire life in New Iberia. She began her career at Morgan and Lindseys Dime Store and in 1954 became proud co-owner and operator of Migues Meat Market along with her husband Gilbert Blanc Migues. After retiring from the grocery business, she worked for Norris Radars Lumber Yard and Nereauxs Interiors. She was a sharp businesswoman and a professional seamstress that specialized in draperies and clothing alterations. Her hobbies included exercising with the Seniors Group at Loffland Hall and working with the local Homemakers Club. She was the recipient of many awards for her baking and sewing. Her family and friends will remember her for her willingness to be of service and for all of the desserts she shared.
Survivors include one daughter; Brenda M. Guillot of Webster, Texas, one son; Malcolm Migues and wife Evelyn of New Iberia, grandchildren; Kimberly Latiolais of Houston, Texas, Tammy Latiolais of League City, Texas, Stephanie Guillot of Iota, La., Emili M. Delcambre and husband Brian and Paul Migues all of New Iberia and a great granddaughter; Allie Delcambre also of New Iberia, one sister; Hazel Flowers of Ellisville, Miss., two brothers; Willie Oubre of New Iberia and Paul Bud Oubre of East Aurora, New York.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Gilbert Blanc Migues, her parents; Albert and Blanche Luquette Oubre and a sister; Mae Romero.
Pallbearers will be Paul Migues, Brian Delcambre, Jim Oubre, Brad Rodrigue, Preston Flowers and Mark Flowers.
The family expresses special thanks to her loyal sitters and friends, Dorothy, Rita, Agnes, Evelyn and Maureen for their devoted care and love.
