Blaise Donald Malagarie

Lafayette - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 12:00PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Broussard for Mr. Blaise Donald Malagarie, age 88. Mr. Blaise passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 4:20PM, at his residence in Broussard.

Visitation will begin on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 12:00PM until 9:00PM, with a Rosary being recited at 7:00PM and will resume at 9:00AM on Friday, May 9, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Broussard and will continue until services. Rev. Louis Richard will be officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Broussard.

Blaise, a resident of Broussard, was a veteran of World War II. He was in the 156th Infrantry Division (31st) of the United States Army where he received the Purple Heart and Silver Star Medals. Mr. Blaise was an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Chuch for many years, starting as an Altar Boy and later as an Eucharistic Minister, and continued serving as an Altar Boy until his death. He served as Town Councilman of Broussard from 1955 until 1967 with eight of his twelve years serving as Mayor Pro-Tem, was a Charter Member of V.F.W. Post 9210 of Youngsville, a member of American Legion Post #69 of Lafayette, Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus Council #7557, Advocate of the Council until his death and member and past President of the Holy Name Society.

Blaise worked at Morgan Supply House as a salesman until he opened his own business; he was the proud owner of Mid-Town Esso Service Center in Broussard for 22 years; with the Lafayette Parish School System as a Bus Driver for 20 years and after he retired he returned to work as Custodian at St. Cecilia for 13 years. Blaise was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by all.

Blaise is survived by his children, Della Murray Breaux and her husband Jesse of Eunice, Thomas E. Malagarie and his wife Marilyn of Orange, Texas, Lionel V. Malagarie of Carencro, Elizabeth Malagarie LeBlanc and her husband Jody of Breaux Bridge; his grandchildren, Stacy Duplantis and her husband David, Ryan Malagarie and his wife Jill, Keil Murray, Nicholas Malagarie and his wife Amanda, Ian LeBlanc, Elliott LeBlanc, Scottie Wilson and his wife Laurie, Danyel "Dede" Veazey and her husband Cliff, great-grandchildren, Dylan and Kodi Hardin, Garrett Hammond, Taylor Murray, Brittany Faul, Gabrielle and Gracie Malagarie, Kayleigh Lute and Sadie Malagarie, Bode and Ty Wilson and Breanna Veazey and one sister-in-law Virgie Anslem.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Ann "Chinney" Anselm Malagarie; his parents, Lionel V. and Melanie Monte Malagarie and a brother and his wife, Louis Leo Malagarie and his wife Dorothy Malagarie.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Malagarie, Ian LeBlanc, Elliott LeBlanc, Keil Murray, Scottie Wilson and Ryan Malagarie. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Leon Monte, Taylor Murray and members of Knights of Columbus # 7557.

The family would like to express thanks to Agnes's Loving Care and St. Theresa's Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. for the loving care given to Mr. Blaise.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Mr. Blaise Malagarie's name to St. Cecilia School Foundation Fund.
