Frederick Herman Rolufs, Sr.

February 16, 1918 — July 31, 2007

Lafayette - ROLUFS, Frederick Herman, Sr., a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, (89), died peacefully at Cornerstone Assisted Living, Lafayette, LA on July 31, 2007. He was cremated and a Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church in Milton, LA at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2007. Burial will be at a future date at Pass Christian, Mississippi, St. Paul Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Yvette Bagur and their nine children including six daughters: Gretchen (Rob) Sutherland of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; Karen (Bill) Sisco of Hammond, LA; Marlene Gieseler of Youngsville, LA; Stephanie (Randy) Forgey of Kittitas, WA; Lisa of Alexandria, LA; Tessa (Eric) Trelz of St. Louis, MO; three sons: Frederick Herman, Jr. (Mary) of St. Rose, LA; Jan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Eric of Covington, LA; twenty-two grandchildren, Kirsten (Todd) Holmquist-Sutherland, Robert Warren (Jan) Sutherland III, Deborah Surgi, Jennifer Rolufs, Beth (Johnny) Fisher, Katie Rolufs, Ben Sisco, Nicole Sisco, Hans (Lisa) Gieseler, Leah Gieseler, Jeremy (Bridget) Forgey, Amanda (Matt Wilcox) Forgey, Peter (Makiko) Rolufs, Heidi (Sam) Pfister, Michael (Ran Chen) Rolufs, Matthew (Arie) Rolufs, Erica (Callum) Chisolm, Yvette Rolufs, Frederick M. Trelz, Nicholas E. Trelz and Harrison E. Trelz: eleven great-grandchildren: Connor, Emily, Max and Dylan Sutherland; Noel Rolufs, Alaska Gieseler, Sophie Rolufs, Eric Holmquist-Sutherland, Julia Fisher, Vanessa Leigh Rolufs and Penelope Pfister and his sister Mary Belle Mickal of New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles F. (Bozo) Rolufs and Mary Feske Rolufs, his sister Betty Ruth Haynes of Mobile AL, his brother Fred Rolufs; a grandson, Marc Surgi and a son-in-law, Robert Gieseler. Herman was born February 16, 1918, the third child of Charles F.Bozo Rolufs and Mary Feske Rolufs in Franklin, LA. He graduated from Warren Easton Boys High School as Valedictorian of his class in 1934. On May 15, 1941, he married Yvette Blanche Bagur at St. Louis Cathedral, New Orleans. He was a devoted, active member of the parishes of St. Cecilia, St. Mary Goretti and Immaculate Heart of Mary in New Orleans, offering his home for catechism classes and CYO square dances weekly. He was an active member of Christian Family Movement and later an active member of St. Pauls Catholic Church in Pass Christian, MS where he was a lector, Eucharistic minister and was a devoted member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Before his marriage, he worked for the Louisiana & Arkansas RR Company. In 1950, he joined the Chevron Finance Department in purchasing and transportation where he remained until he retired. He served in the U. S. Army and the National Guard. He served as Chairman of the Board of Aunt Sallys Praline Company, Inc. He was a lifelong, hard-core Democrat. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Holy Family Parish, 22342 Evangeline Rd., Pass Christian MS 39571.
