View Video Tribute New Iberia"Funeral services honoring the life of Olite Gary Delahoussaye Touchet, 94, will be held on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Richard Fabre will officiate. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery, Delcambre. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2008 from 4:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home. Mrs. Touchet passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 9:55 A.M. in her New Iberia residence. A native of Jefferson Island and longtime resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Touchet was a past member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a nurses aide at Dauterive Hospital for many years, where she assisted the Cajun-French-speaking patients by translating their needs for their doctors and nurses. Never one to be idle, Mrs. Touchet stayed busy cleaning house, doing dishes, gardening, and picking pecans. She also enjoyed going for walks and drinking coffee with her many friends. Her greatest joy was caring for her family, and she took care of her mother and her grandchildren for many years. Survivors include her sons, Vernick Delahoussaye and wife, Vernice of Loreauville, Joseph J.C. Delahoussaye and wife, Wyva of New Iberia, and Arthur Touchet, Jr. and wife Janice of New Iberia; brother, Doris Gary of Gillis, TX; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Preceding Mrs. Touchet in death were her husband, Arthur Touchet, Sr.; parents, Valcour and Elzia Reaux Gary; brothers, Nedier Gary, Moniq Gary, Otis Gary, and Reginald Gary; and sisters, Media Guitierez, Mim Deslatte, Lucy Jones, Eleanor Suire, and Olita Hebert. Serving as pallbearers are J.C. Boy Delahoussaye, Jr., Wade Delahoussaye, Kurt Delahoussaye, Keith Delahoussaye, Scotty McGinn, and Wayne Derouen. Named as honorary pallbearers are Mrs. Touchets sons, Vernick Delahoussaye, J.C. Delahoussaye, Sr., and Arthur Touchet, Jr. David Funeral Home, 1101 Trotter Street, New Iberia, 369-6336 is in charge of arrangements.
