Lucy Menard Suire

Erath- A Mass of Christian Burial for Lucy Menard Suire, 91, will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Wayne Duet officiating. The reader will be her great nephew, Troy Hebert. Gift Bearers will be her niece, Kelly Ruth Broussard and her great niece, Rhonda Hebert Anderson. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008 from 4:00PM until 9:00PM, with a recitation of the rosary at 6:00PM, and will resume on Saturday, May 24, 2008 from 8:00AM until time of service. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery where she will be buried with her husband Edwin. Mrs. Suire passed away on May 22, 2008 at 11:25AM after a brief illness at Maison de Lafayette, where she had been a resident since 2005. Previously she had lived in Erath and Abbeville, LA. Lucy was born to Antoine and Ophelia Broussard Menard on October 4, 1916 in Vermilion Parish and was to become one of 17 children. On May 4, 1934 she married Edwin Suire. Lucy and her husband Edwin, over the years, ran several businesses from a grocery store, washeteria and the one they are remembered for is the ownership of D Gulf Restaurant in Delcambre, LA which they ran for several years. She enjoyed cooking and more so seeing how much others enjoyed eating her cooking. They were long time residents of Erath, LA. Lucy was also a long time member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Church Ladies Altar Society of which her niece, Kelly Ruth Broussard, always saw to her enrollment. To many she was known as Tante Luce or Nan and sometimes Old Nan. She is survived by two sisters, Eula M. LeBlanc and Ernestine M. Landry both of Lafayette; a brother-in-law, Johnny Suire and his wife Florine of Erath; several nephews and nieces; as well as great and great great nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Paul, Otto, Ophe, Lodias, Otis, Ophelias, Elie, Edier Menard; sisters, Agnes Hebert, Ozite Hollier, Paula Menard and Effie Menard; and infant brothers and sisters at birth. Pallbearers will be Don and Troy Hebert, Louis Anderson, Cline LeBlanc, Allen Bourque and Lovelace Broussard. Thanks are given to Maison de Lafayette for their care, attention and kindness shown to her during her stay. Also Hospice of Acadiana and special thanks to Pam Richard of hospice for all the care. David Funeral Home of Erath will be handling arrangements.
