Loving Husband, Father & Grandfather

Jeanerette " A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Antoine Joseph Toupee Derouen, Sr., 78, on Monday, May 26, 2008 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Ed Degeyter officiating and assisted by Deacon Theo Landry. Interment will follow in St. John Mausoleum.

Visitation will begin on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and resume on Monday, May 26, 2008 at 8:00 AM until services. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Sunday at 6:30 PM.

Toupee died peacefully Friday night at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.

To know him was to love and respect him. He was known and will always be remembered as a hard worker. If there was a job to be done he was there to do it. He was overseer for Clarence Lemaire Farms for 20 years, and for R & B Farms for an additional 22 years. He retired from farming in 1992 and then he did handyman work, until just before his death.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Hebert Derouen; his four children, Antoine J. Derouen, Jr. and his wife Hollis, Betty D. Ortega and her husband Joaquin, Jr. all of New Iberia, Dean J. Derouen and his wife Stephanie and Della A. Derouen and her boyfriend Mark McClean all of Jeanerette; his six grandchildren, Christian Elliott Derouen, Catherine Claire Derouen, Daniel Joseph Ortega, Timothy Michael Ortega, Kayla Renee Derouen and Noel Elizabeth Derouen; his one great grandchild, Aidan Joseph Derouen; his four sisters and two brothers, Mary Ann Blanchard and her husband Ambrose of Charenton, Octavia Copp, Julie Landry and her husband Alfred all of Franklin, Rosalie Landry and her husband Carol, Guy Derouen and his wife Marlene all of Jeanerette and Charles Derouen and his wife Janelle of New Iberia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Octave Derouen and Elodie Hebert Derouen; his five sisters, Estelle Landry, Thelma Zimmerman, Lelia Powers, Lillie Stoute and Joyce LeBlanc; and his two brothers, Cleudy Derouen and Paul Joseph Derouen.

The family has requested memorials to Hospice of Acadiana 2600 Johnston St. Suite 200 Lafayette, LA 70503.

Pallbearers will be Dean John Derouen, Antoine Derouen, Jr., Christine Elliott Derouen, Daniel Joseph Ortega, Timothy Michael Ortega and Kenneth Blanchard, Sr..

Honorary pallbearers will be Guy Derouen, Charles Derouen, Joaquin Ortega, Jr., Scott Walmsley, Brett Bishop and Kerry Landry.
