Coteau"A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Oscar E. Figueroa, Sr., the former Adelaida Aida Rivera, 77, will be celebrated on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. The Reverend Barry Crochet will serve as celebrant. Private inurnment will follow at a later date in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, 1101 Trotter Street, New Iberia, with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home. Mrs. Figueroa passed away on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 12:20 P.M. in her Coteau residence. A native of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, Mrs. Figueroa had lived in Louisiana for over 50 years, and was a Coteau resident since 1980. She was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening in her yard. Her greatest joy in life was being with and caring for her family. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Oscar E. Figueroa, Sr. of Coteau; son, Oscar E. Figueroa, Jr. and wife, Sharon of Houma; daughters, Josie Badeaux and husband, Jeffery of New Orleans and Judith Kay and boyfriend, DeWayne Self of New Iberia; sisters, Sylvia Morales and Mary Gueverra of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico; brothers, Ernesto Rivera of Milwaukee, WI, Augustine Rivera of Chicago, and Benito Rivera of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico; grandchildren, Sasha Ainsley Kay and Dalton Kay of New Iberia, Jose Figueroa and wife, Bridgette of New Iberia, and Jamie Figueroa and wife, Angela of Houma; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Caitlyn, Lexi, Alexis, Hanna, and Hayden. Preceding Mrs. Figueroa in death were her parents, Augustine and Petronilla Lopez Rivera. Serving as pallbearers are DeWayne Self, Dalton Kay, Dylan Figueroa, Jamie Figueroa, Jose Salcedo, and Jose Figueroa. David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
