NEW IBERIA - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Dennis Joseph David, 83, on Friday, September 7, 2007 at 11:00 AM at St. Peters Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Schexnayder and Rev. Mr. George Sikes officiating. Lectors will be Kristi Kaye D. Minvielle and Kelly Renee' David. Giftbearers will be Hannah, Ethan, and Peyton David and Robert Minvielle, Jr. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum.

Mr. David died on Sunday, September 2, 2007 at 2:25 PM at Iberia General Medical Center.

A gathering of family and friends will begin on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 4:00 PM till 9:00 PM and resume on Friday, September 7, 2007 at 8:00 AM until service time.

A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 7:00 PM.

A native of Youngsville, LA, Mr. David was a resident of New Iberia most of his life. He began his career in funeral service in 1943 as a part-time employee at Berges Funeral Home in New Iberia. In 1954 hepurchased half interest in Berges Funeral Home and then in1961purchased the remaining half interest. In 1964 a new funeral home was built on Trotter Street in New Iberia and the name was changed to David Funeral Home. In 1986 he establishedDavid Funeral Home of Loreauville, in 1987 acquired W.L. Landry Funeral Home of Jeanerette which is now being operated as David Funeral Home of Jeanerette, and in 1993 built David Funeral Home in Broussard. He and his wife operated the funeralbusiness until their retirement in 1993. Mr. And Mrs. David also owned and operated the Royal Motel in downtown New Iberia from 1972 thru 2005. Mr. David served on the Iberia Parish Policy Jury for 16 years, was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1208, a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. J.M. Langlois Assembly, was a former member of the New Iberia Lions Club, and served as its president and was a former member of the New Iberia Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cora Mae Viator David of New Iberia; three sons, Danny J. David, Sr. and his wife Mavis and Richard G. David and his wife Dione both of New Iberia and Royal David and his wife Elizabeth of Mandeville; a daughter, Mary D. Peck and her husband Steve of Carencro; ten grandchildren, Danny J. Sonny David, Jr. and his wife Angela, Kristi Kaye D. Minvielle and her husband Robert, Kemp J. David and his wife Chanlyn, Kelly Renee David and her fianc Chris Perkins, Lance M. David, Dexter Dennis David, Mason R. David, Andre M. David, Peyton L. David and Sarah Elizabeth David; five great-grandchildren, Hannah David, Ethan David, Robert Minvielle, Anna Kate Minvielle and Blake Locascio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alcee and Hilda Fabre David; two brothers, Raoul David and Wilton David; five sisters, Eloise D. Viator, Elise D. Viator, Mable D. Boutte, Agnes D. Viator and Deloria D. Derouen.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are his grandsons, Danny J. Sonny David, Jr., Kemp J. David, Lance M. David, Dexter Dennis David, Mason R. David and Andre M. David.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at David Funeral Homes, David Marble and Granite and Beau Pre Memorial Park Cemetery.

David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
