Lawless Paul Dore

Retired Chief of Police NEW IBERIA ~ Memorial services for Lawless P. Dore, 77, will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Scott Dugas as Celebrant and Father Mark Derise as Co-Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Cy Gates Community City in New Iberia City Park following service. A native of Iberia Parish, Mr. Dore died at 8:40 PM Friday, August 29, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his family. His body was donated to the LSU Medical School in Shreveport as he requested. Mr. Dore was a former member of the Louisiana National Guard before entering the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, where he served in the 591st military police. Upon his discharge, he returned to the New Iberia Police Department, and after 20 years he retired with the rank of Major. He then accepted the position of Chief of Police in Jeanerette where he once again retired with a total of 30 years in law enforcement. He was an active member of the Municipal Police Officers Association, the Louisiana Peace Officers Association, and the Louisiana Chiefs of Police Association. During his time of service, he received many awards and citations for his work and attended numerous seminars and schools on traffic safety and traffic engineering. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Geraldine Gerry V. Dore; son, Thomas Dore and wife Helen; grandchildren, Scott and Sara Dore (who were the lights of his life); sister, Nella D. Viator and husband Roosevelt; brothers, Allen J. Dore and wife Barbara, and Nerry J. Dore; and sister-in-law, Ella D. Bott and husband Jim. Mr. Dore was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Levie V. Dore; brother, Joseph Dore; and sister, Eula D. Broussard and husband Curtis. Memorial contributions made be made in Mr. Dores name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street Suite 200, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503.
