Burney J. Latiolais, Sr. Chief Warrant Officer U.S. Navy Ret. Private funeral Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery for Burney Joseph Latiolais,Sr., who passed away on September 10th, 2008 at Lafayette General Medical Center. He was born in Breaux Bridge, La. on September 10th, 1915. After high school he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served his country with honor and pride until his retirement in 1947. On Dec.7th, 1941, he was on board the USS Pelias in Pearl Harbor during the surprise Japanese attack. He spent the rest of WWII fighting the Pacific Theater of War.After the war he enjoyed attending reunions with his fellow USS Pelias shipmates and Pearl Harbor survivors.He was Post Commander of the VFW Post in Breaux Bridge for a number of years.He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Temple of St. Martinville. He belonged to the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assoc., the Retired Officers Association, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Vandelle Guilbeau Latiolais; his son Burney J. Latiolais, Jr., and his wife Laurie, of Lafayette; Four grandchildren, Sarah K.Latiolais, M.D., of New Orleans; Jason Latiolais, BM2 USCG of New Orleans, Callie and Joseph Latiolais of Lafayette; his sister Lucille L. Castille, and her husband, Percy Castille. He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred & Lucille Guidry Latiolais, two sisters Pearl L. LeBlanc and Hazel L. Begnaud, two brothers Danny Latiolais and Chester Latiolais. The family would like to thank the fourth floor staff at Lafayette General, Hospice of Acadiana, and all of his family, neighbors, and friends.
