Lafayette " A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. O.J. Bourque, Sr., age 74, will be held at St. Annes Catholic Church in Youngsville on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 10:00AM. Father Jason Mouton will be officiating. Visitation will begin on Friday, September 19, 2008 at2:00PM until 9:00PM, with a rosary being recited at 7:00PM and will resume on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 8:00AM until Services. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Broussard.

Mr. Bourque was a native of Delcambre and a resident of Broussard. He passed away on Monday, September 15, 2008 at 8:34PM at Maison de Lafayette in Lafayette.

Mr. Bourque served in the United States Air Force with a tour in Germany specializing in radar technology. He then attended SLI and graduated in 1962 with a degree in electrical engineering. Mr. Bourque pursued his career as an engineer while working for Boeing and General Electric. During this time, he was a member of a design team from General Electric that worked on the Apollo II Missions computer system that sent messages to the spacecraft.

O.J. was an engineer by nature; he spent many weekends in his spare time designing furniture for his family in his wood shop. Mr. Bourque was also a Western Auto Store owner in Broussard, La. for 10 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Broussard at Sacred Heart Church.

Mr. Bourque is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marcelia Stelly Bourque (Marcy); his daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and Jerry Speer; three sons, Patrick Bourque and his wife Charina , O.J. Bourque, Jr. and his wife Barbara and Nathan Bourque and his wife Elizabeth. He had six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Verly Landry and other siblings including, Linda Menard, Hilda Porter, Charlene Hebert, Paul Bourque and Timmy Paul Bourque.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul Joseph Bourque and Adelaide Cormier Bourque.

The Bourque family would like to express their deepest thanks to Patricia Nickerson, Kathy Guidry and Iggy Landry and all of the support staff from Hospice that assisted Mr. O.J. in his last days. The family also would like to request that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana in memory of Mr. O.J. Bourque, Sr.

David Funeral Home of Lafayette, 316 Youngsville Highway, 337-837-9887, will be handling the arrangements.
