New Iberia"A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Volzie P. V.P. Simoneaud, the former Hazel Decuir, 89, will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in St. Peter Catholic Church. The Reverend Gary Schexnayder will serve as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, with a rosary being recited at 7:30 P.M. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home. Mrs. Simoneaud passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 12:40 A.M. in a New Iberia hospital. A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Simoneaud was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. She also held memberships in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and V.F.W. Post 1982 Ladies Auxiliary. Along with her husband, Mrs. Simoneaud owned and operated Simoneauds Grocery and Market from 1954 until her retirement at age 86. She enjoyed playing Pokeno and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Volzie P. V.P. Simoneaud of New Iberia; sons, Claude Simoneaud and wife, Martha, Roy Simoneaud and wife, Toni, and Wayne Simoneaud and wife, Virginia, all of New Iberia; sister, Maude Boutte of New Iberia; grandchildren, Delean Denise DeeDee Dooley and husband, Doyle of Youngsville, Jason Lewis Simoneaud and wife, Dawn of Youngsville, Brandie Kay Lewis and husband, David of New Iberia, David James Simoneaud and wife, Starlet of New Iberia, Mandy Angelle Boudreaux and husband, Nick of New Iberia, Carly Alayne Chevalon of New Iberia, Wayne Paul Simoneaud, II and girlfriend, Molly McEacharn of Baton Rouge, Stuart Michael Simoneaud and wife, Christine of Youngsville, Emily Elise Pridgen and husband, Jamie of New Iberia, Elliot Thomas Simoneaud and wife, Brooke of Youngsville, Virginia Elise Ginna Judice and husband, Justin of New Iberia, and Katherine Elizabeth Simoneaud and fianc, Rocky LeBlanc of New Iberia; and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceding Mrs. Simoneaud in death were her parents, Lucien and Lydia Hebert Decuir; and a brother, Alvin Bud Decuir. Serving as pallbearers are Jerret Dooley, Wayne Simoneaud, Stuart Simoneaud, Elliot Simoneaud, David Simoneaud, and Jason Simoneaud. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Mrs. Simoneauds caregivers, Melissa Duhon, Evelyn Romero, and Rose Breaux.
