Barbara Roane Patout

Jeanerette " Barbara Roane Patout died October 31, 2008 in the home that she built and loved. She was born at the Millet Hotel in Jeanerette on April 21, 1922. Barbara was the second child and first daughter of the late Donald Charles Roane, Sr. and Irene Millet Roane. Survivors include two sons, Mark Patout and her daughter-in-law, Becky Patout of Jeanerette and Peter Patout of New Orleans; two sisters, Carolyn Roane of Jeanerette and Jane Roane deGravelles of Lafayette; sister-in-law, Mary Roane of Jeanerette; grandchildren, Chad, Christopher and Sara Patout and Allison Landry and her husband Jared, all of Jeanerette; great grandchildren, Hallie and Keri Landry and Tyler, Briegh and Ory Patout, all of Jeanerette, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Patrick Patout; two sons, Ory and Timothy Patout; a brother, Donald Charles Roane, Jr.; and her parents listed above. Upon graduation from Jeanerette High School in 1939, where she won the state mixed doubles tennis championship with her brother, Donald, she attended SLI for one year and was a member of the DEN sorority and the Red Jackets. After transferring to LSU she became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and various campus clubs. Upon graduating from LSU Barbara and her sister Carolyn opened Barlyns in Jeanerette, a local soda fountain and drug store. She operated the business for many years before turning it over to Carolyn to concentrate on raising her four sons with her husband, Warren. A woman with limitless energy, determination and tenacity, she never stopped doing for family, friends and community. After raising her family she opened one of the first Bed and Breakfasts in Iberia Parish. Barbara also received the Outstanding Citizen Award in Jeanerette for years of community service. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years. Barbara loved to work the soil and plant flowers and landscape her yard. She loved to cook and entertain her many friends. Barbara Patout was a compassionate, giving, humble and thoughtful person who would rather give than receive. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. A memorial service and gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Joseph School in Jeanerette or a charity of your choice in memory of Barbara Patout.
