Louie McGowen Cyr, was born May 12, 1913 in Jeanerette, La, and died October 4, 2007. Visitation will be Monday, October 8, 2007 at David Funeral Home from 10:30AM until time of services that will be held at 1:00PM at David Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Bullock officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Paul N. and Mary McGowen Cyr; son, Paul N. Cyr; sisters, Marjorie Cyr Burch and Emily Cyr Bridges; and brother, Charles McGowen Cyr. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Elizabeth Junot Cyr; daughter, Patricia Cyr Hansen; grandsons, Michael Patrick Norris and Paul N. Cyr, Jr; great grandson, Alexander William Norris; sister-in-law, Lee R. Cyr; brother-in-law, Allen E. Burch; nieces, Paula Cyr Louviere, Sandra Cyr Mestayer, Linda Dixon Hart, Jean Ann Dixon Taylor, Cathy Dixon Thompson; and nephews, Charles McGowen Cyr, Jr. and Junot Dixon. He received a BA from Southwestern Louisiana Institute in 1936 and a LLB, Juris Doctor from LSU Law School in 1939. He practiced law in New Iberia for 42 years and served as City Judge for 2 years. He served in the capacities of Director, President, Chairman of the Board and Chairman Emeritus of Iberia Savings and Loan Association over a span of more than 40 years. He served as President of the Iberia Parish Bar Association and was a member of the House of Delegates of the Louisiana Bar Association. He was also a member of the American Bar Association and the American Judicature Society. He served as Chairman and Board Member of the Iberia Parish Crippled Childrens Association, President of the Kiwanis Club and Lt. Governor of the Kiwanis Western District, Vice President of the Sugar Cane Festival & Fair Association, President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and recipient of its Distinguished Service Award, Director of the New Iberia Chamber of Commerce, President of the Iberia Municipal Concert Association, Chairman of the New Iberia Park and Recreation Commission and recipient of its 1963 Citation Award, President of the New Iberia Community Chest, Director of the Louisiana Land and Royalty Owners Association, member of the LSU Foundation, President of the New Iberia Skeet Club, President of the Iberia Parish Rod and Gun Club. He retired from the practice of law in 1982 and was the recipient of the 1983 Second Wind Award. He was listed in Whos Who in the South and Southwest, Whos Who in Finance and Industry, The Dictionary of International Biography, and Two Thousand Men of Achievement. Louie was an avid duck and dove hunter. Together with close friends he hunted throughout the US, Mexico and Central America. He took great pleasure spending many summer days with his family at his brother Charless camp at Cypremort Point. Pallbearers will be Michael Norris, Paul Cyr, Jr., Charles M. Cyr II, Eldridge Louviere, Ross Mestayer, and Kenneth Fremin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Henry J. Dauterive, Jr., Dr. D. G. Sagrera, Hubert J. Hansen, Allen E. Burch, Michael Manes, Junot Dixon, and Alexander Norris. The family extends its thanks and appreciation to his caregivers, Laurie LeJeune, Faye Broussard, Ruthie Daniel, Rosaland Dartez and Ginnette Pommier. The family is grateful for their support. A very special thanks to Dr. Doug Sagrera for his personal and professional care. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to a charity of the donors choice.
