Lafayette " A Celebration of Life Service for Shannon Randolph Porter, 70, will be held at Chapel of David Funeral Home Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 12:00PM. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 6, 2009 from 11:00AM until services. A native of Coeburn, Virginia and a resident of Lafayette, Mr. Porter passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at a local hospital. He was an owner and operated a trucking company prior to health complications. Shannon loved his family near and far. He enjoyed instilling in his grand kids the need to read, study and broaden their minds. Shannons true love was music. He played lead guitar in a band with his brothers from the late 1960s until the late 1980s named The Porter Brothers . He had the privilege of playing with Country musics great Dolly Parton, Porter Wagoner, The Kendalls, David Allen Coe and meeting his idol Chet Atkins. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by a son, Randy Porter and his wife Jennifer of Lafayette; a daughter, Tisha Hewitt and husband Michael of Fredericksburg, TX; a half sister, Janice Mullins and her husband Big R of Pound, VA; two brothers, Clifford Porter of Plano, IL and Norman Porter of Streatorville, IL; and six grandchildren, Justin, Hayle, Brooke, Chelsea, Tyler and Brandon. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Laura Lowery Porter; and a brother, Darryl Porter. The family would like to express their special thanks to the nurses and caregivers at LTAC of Louisiana and Mindy Richard for being with him in his time of need.
