Roy G. Lasalle, M.D.

He was born May 2, 1929 at his family home in New Iberia (former Segura Plantation) and has been a lifelong resident. He died peacefully on Oct. 21, 2008 at his current residence surrounded by family.

Dr. LaSalle graduated from St. Peters College and finished medical school at LSU. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict where he completed his medical internship as a flight surgeon. Thereafter, Dr. LaSalle opened up his family practice in New Iberia where he served with the utmost dedication and compassion. His roots within our medical community are deeply attached as he admitted the first patient to the Iberia Medical Center (formerly Iberia Parish Hospital) in 1960. Dr. LaSalle also served as Iberia Parish Coroner for 17-years. He was a member of the Fellow American Academy of Family Physicians.

He also had a passion for cooking and was even more driven by the social aspects associated with sitting down to share a meal with family or friends. Dr. LaSalle enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and had been an avid hunter & fisherman.

Whether in the office or not, he was the consummate Doctor. He had an uncanny knack of incorporating his unique sense of humor into every medical exam. You may not have always been cured, but you always felt cured. Doc was a dear friend to many and will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his two daughters, Patricia (Pousette) Vincent & Claire Babette Lastrapes of New Iberia and his four sons, Roy (Buddy) LaSalle Jr. & wife Karen of Salem, New Hampshire, Thomas LaSalle & wife Katherine & Francois (Skipper) LaSalle of Lafayette,LA, and Dr. Michael LaSalle & wife Johnetta of Houma, LA; grandchildren Avery & Joel Vincent & Bryce Reed; Katelin LaSalle; Jennifer, Amanda & Lawrence (Bo) Lastrapes; Thomas II & Ormond LaSalle and Mallory, Marie Francis, Jean-Michael & Monique LaSalle; great grandchildren Hallie & Noah Vincent and Alyce Eldridge; sisters Stella Mula, Katie Kibbie & Una Heffron, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dr. LaSalle was preceded in death by his parents; Francois Xavier Elzear and Stella DeBlanc; brothers Bob, Tom, Pete & Dave LaSalle; sisters Frances Walker & Helen Bienvenu.
