Cortland passed away on Wednesday, December 03, 2008 at 2:50 P.M. in a Baton Rouge hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Cortland was a 2007 graduate of Catholic High School. An avid and accomplished baseball player, he played shortstop for his high school team, where he was named to the All State Team. His dedication and love of the game led to scholarship offers following his prep career, as well as his selection to the Louisiana Legends All Star Select Team. Cortland played for Panola Junior College in Texas during his freshman year of college, and he was currently playing for Baton Rouge Community College, where his number is being retired to honor his memory.
Cortlands life was not all about baseball. He was an accomplished student, and he was a faithful member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Cortlands greatest legacy, however, is his love of his family and friends, all of whom will miss him very much.
