Lafayette " A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Jeffery P. Guidry, the former Nellie Pendas, 86, will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Falgout Funeral Home Chapel in Houma. Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home in Lafayette on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 beginning at 2:00PM until 9:00PM, with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume at Falgout Funeral Home in Houma on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 from 10:00AM until the time of the services. Interment will follow at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #II in Houma. Mrs. Guidry, a native of Ponchatoula, Louisiana and a resident of Lafayette, passed away at 3:30AM on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at a local Broussard Health Care Facility. Mrs. Guidry was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was married for 56 years. Mrs. Guidry was a founder and first president of T.A.R.C. of Houma, Louisiana; and also a charter member of the Terrebonne Genealogy Society in Houma. Mrs. Guidry was credited for being a long term member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lafayette, a member of the Alter Society, a lector and reader. Mrs. Guidry was the first female usher. She was also an ordained Eucharistic Minister. Nell and her husband received the Diocesan Award for Outstanding Advocates for the Retarded by Bishop Edward ODonnell in June of 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Diana L. Guidry of Lafayette; a son, Jeff P. Guidry and his wife Mary of Broussard; four grandchildren, Matthew W. Collins, Benjamin F. Collins, Nicholaus M. Collins, and Dawn G. Delaune; and three great grandchildren, Shelby L. Delaune, Gabrielle L. Collins, and Matthew D. Collins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeffery P. Guidry, Sr.; her parents, Clarence S. Pendas and Lena Bergeron Pendas. The family wishes to thank the medical staff at Lafayette General L.T.A.C. unit for their outstanding compassion and care, and the nursing staff at Camelot in Broussard for their hope and cheerfulness. In leiu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Nellies name to the Lafayette Association for Retarded Citizens. David Funeral Home of Lafayette, 316 Youngsville Highway, (337) 837-9887, will be handling the arrangements.
